- │ WHAT IS MOUSE LISTER? │
- │ │
- │ ML is a small mouse oriented program for listing ordinary text files. │
- │ While there are several excellent programs for listing text files, there │
- │ are few if any readily available listing programs that take advantage of │
- │ the mouse device. │
- │ │
- │ After writing WINDIR, a mouse oriented directory utility, the need for a │
- │ program such as ML was felt. WINDIR would allow the user to point at a │
- │ file in a directory with a mouse and list the file with a file lister of │
- │ his choice. Using an ordinary listing program meant that the user would │
- │ need to put the mouse aside while he was in the lister, and return to │
- │ the mouse when WINDIR was re-entered. ML solves this problem. │
- │ │
- │ │

- │ MOUSE LISTER FUNCTIONS: │
- │ │
- │ Most of ML's functions can be accessed from the keyboard or from the │
- │ mouse. The following list explains each function. Unless otherwise │
- │ indicated the left mouse button should be depressed after placing the │
- │ mouse cursor in the proper location to access the function. │
- │ │

- │ │
- │ Quit Esc Bottom right Exits the program and returns │
- │ corner of screen to the calling program (usually │
- │ DOS). You must click twice to │
- │ exit with the mouse. If a │
- │ mouse is installed a double │
- │ note will usually be shown in │
- │ the bottom right corner. The │
- │ double notes remind you that │
- │ you need to double click here │
- │ to exit. After one click the │
- │ double note will change to a │
- │ single note. If you click here │
- │ again without issuing another │
- │ command you will exit. While │
- │ viewing this file this command │
- │ will cause you to return to the │
- │ main file. │

- │ FUNCTIONS KEYS EXPLANATION │
- ├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
- │ Up Up arrow These keys move the window on │
- │ Down Down arrow the text. Up arrow will make │
- │ Right Right arrow the window move up (text will │
- │ Left Left arrow appear to move down). The │
- │ other keys mentioned work │
- │ similarly. │
- ├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
- │ The preceding eight functions are mimicked and expanded with the mouse. │
- │ To the right of the text and below the text are "slider bars" that │
- │ demonstrate graphically where the window is in relation to the text. │
- │ For example if the green (or grey) box is at the top of the vertical │
- │ bar, the window is at the top of the file. If the box is in the center │
- │ of the bar, the window is in the middle of the text. The mouse may be │
- │ used to make quick adjustments of the window location. By placing the │
- │ mouse in one of the bars and pressing the left button the window will be │
- │ instantly moved. You can drag the window indicator in both bars by │
- │ holding down the left button and moving the mouse cursor. │
- │ │
- │ By placing the mouse cursor on one of the arrow characters at the ends │
- │ of both bars and pressing the left button the mouse can mimic the up, │
- │ down, left, and right arrow keys, but the text will change much faster │
- │ than if you used the arrow keys. To make a fine adjustment of the │
- │ location of the text in the window, place the mouse cursor within the │
- │ text window, hold down the left button and drag the text to the location │
- │ in the screen you wish it to be. │
- ╞═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╡
- │ The following functions have no mouse counterpart. These functions are │

- ├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
- │ Find F The find command allows the │
- │ user to quickly find any string │
- │ in a file. The user will be │
- │ asked for the string to find. │
- │ Pressing enter at this time │
- │ will start the search. │
- │ Pressing escape will abort the │

- │ FUNCTIONS KEY EXPLANATION │
- ├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
- │ Case C The case command is │

- ├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
- │ Next N The next command repeats the │

- │ 9. These number specify a time │
- │ to delay between updates, so 0 │
- │ specifies the fastest speed and │
- │ 9 specifies the slowest speed. │
- │ Any other key or any mouse │

- │ REGISTRATION, SHAREWARE, AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT │
- │ │
- │ ML (pronounce it "Mel") requires licensing for continued use. ML is not │
- │ in the public domain, neither is it free. In order to keep production │
- │ costs down, we use a marketing scheme that some have called "Shareware." │
- │ Shareware marketing means that you can freely copy ML for yourself and │
- │ use the program on your computer for purposes of evaluating the program │
- │ (to see if the program fits your needs). After a reasonable period of │
- │ time (say 21 days) if you continue to use the program, you should then │
- │ purchase a license to use the program. Licensing for ML costs $6.00. │
- │ For the licensing fee of $6.00 you will receive the latest version of ML │
- │ on a double density 5 1/4 inch floppy, or if you already have the latest │
- │ version, the next version to be released will be sent. The author is │
- │ also working of an Extended Mouse Lister (MLX). MLX will contain all │
- │ the features of ML and then some. In addition to ML's features MLX will │
- │ add a DOS shell function, the ability to change files without exiting │
- │ the program, a hypertext capability, menus, and other advanced │
- │ functions. When you purchase a license for ML you will automatically be │
- │ granted a license for MLX. │
- │ │
- │ A special license for ML only (i.e. MLX is not included) is granted to │
- │ all licensees of WINDIR version 1.4 or greater. WINDIR is a mouse │
- │ oriented directory utility. See WINDIR.DOC in WDIRxx.EXE, a │
- │ self-extracting archive. │
- │ │
- │ Your license will also entitle you to technical support via the address, │
- │ telephone numbers, or CompuServe number given above. Update notices of │
- │ enhancements to ML and MLX will be sent to all registered users. No │
- │ further licensing will be necessary to receive future versions of the │
- │ program, but a small fee will be charged if you wish to get an update │
- │ from the author. │
- │ │
- │ The shareware approach to selling software is an honor system. Authors │
- │ labor hard to produce good software for computer users and trust users │
- │ to license the software they use. Unless users are honest shareware │
- │ authors must abandon the practice. They will be forced either to stop │
- │ writing software, or write only for commercial software houses. In │
- │ either case computer users will lose. If you use this software, please │
- │ purchase a license. │
